Crank Dat World  By Darren, Hipsterpad.com     |Email| As crazy as that sounds the “Crank Dat” phenomenon has taken over. If you are from another planet or you don’t listen to music I’m talking about Soulja boy’s song “Crank Dat(Soulja Boy). The year 2007 was officially the year of “Crank Dat”. The only thing that crank dat means is to start something, usually a dance. The first people to start cranking it was the PLP with “Crank Dat Roosevelt.” It didn’t catch on and the dance to it was pretty weak. Soulja Boy actually uses a line in his song about cranking the roosevelt. Soulja Boy created the song last March and the craze has been going ever since. The magnitude of how large this one song has become is nuts. It spent seven weeks at #1 on US Billboard hot 100 in ’07, #1 on BET’s top 100 of ’07, and #21 on Rolling Stones list of the 100 best songs of 07. The song is nominated for a Grammy in the best song category against 50 cent, Kanye West, and T.I.  Crank Dat is on Wikipedia. The song was used on the hit show Entourage.  Even celebrities have gotten into the craze. Jimmy Kimmel, Carrie Underwood, Snoop Dogg, Beyonce, Regis and Kelly can be seen on the internet doing the dance. Souja boy actually has an instructional video on how to do the dance.  And true story, I caught one of my friends watching the video and practicing the steps (my bad Kevin I had to). Several people have made up their own dance and a website called what else but crankdat.com shows you dance videos. All over the web you can see video after video of these dances such as Crank Dat spiderman, lion king, grandpa(one of my fav’s),ryu,curry sauce(kinda funny),forrest gump,jump rope, yank, iceman, army boy, and facebook. Just to name a few. I know the whole “Crank Dat” dance movement is just a fad and it will meet its death in 08.  But until it does CRANK DA WORLD. - Darren - Rate This Post !
