Battle of the Faux Pas: Sport Coat Vs Ugg Boots  By Eric, Hipsterpad.com    |Email| What I must first note is that both types of apparel can be worn well and look just fantastic.  But usually it is just not so.  The sport coat used to be that retro-new hip item that Brit-wannabes wore with jeans over the tight Armani t-shirt while out on the town. The Ugg boot used to be a sorority girl stigma that never left the college campus after winter. Now the sport coat is mismatched with bold polo shirts to cover up beer bellies and lack of style creativity. The Uggs are now crawling the urban streets with jeans, stretch pants, and sweats alike tucked into the boot that simply put, just isn’t that sexy anymore. I am sorry ladies, but its not 2004 and we are not impressed by the furry circle riding high on your leg simply because you can afford the over priced sheepskin import. Worn as a regular boot that does not have the pant leg tucked in looks classier and a lot less "I’m trying to impress you-ish". As for the sport coat, well here are a few ways you my fellow fella, can tell if the situation warrants a sport coat or not. First, if you are not that great of a dresser or a style-savvy person in general, odds are you are going to do it wrong, so leave the sport coat back on the rack and stick to long sleeve polo’s. By the same account over-dressing sees all too many men sporting the sport jacket coupled with over-the-top ripped jeans and thick leather strap bracelets or watch apparel. This also is a red flag, if your jeans are ripped to the point where your knees are actually getting frost bite, odds are you are trying entirely too hard. Keep It Cool If you are going out on the town for intense boozing bumping and grinding, the coat is also a no-no. Even if you pull off the outfit, you are then ultimately stuck in an area much too hot and sticky to worry about what to do with your fancy sport jacket. Unless there is a coat check, which odds are there isn’t, leave the jacket behind enemy lines. Lastly, use your better judgment. If one of your buddies or a lady friend says that you look a bit “too much” and they’re not just busting your chops, take the hint and patch up some of those old blue jeans while you’re at it. Oh, and if you don’t own a sport jacket and are thinking of just using an old suit jacket…..do I even have to say it? As for the ladies with the Uggs, here’s a tip. If it’s below 40 degrees outside and you decide to wear a skirt with Uggs simply for the look, you will only look kind of silly and dare I say stupid, for subjecting yourself to unnecessary cold and fashion faux pas. Even if you’re still that sorority girl undergrad at wherever University, leave the skirt behind, throw on some jeans and by all means don’t tuck them into the Ugg anymore. The most important thing to remember regarding the Ugg is that the boot itself looks natural if worn “normally” without being tucked into anything or coupled with ruffle-style skirts in the cold. I understand the Ugg is a status symbol like Mercedez or Gucci but honestly ladies, you would all get a little more respect out there if you left the pants un-tucked and the skirts at home on that cold Saturday night. I assure you there are more than enough articles of clothing and accessories out there to boast a brand name status symbol for as long as you like. Wearing a skirt with them does kind of make you a little sluty though. Jessica Gotta agree with the sports jaket thing! Especially when guys try wearing the suit jackets...thats just sad!
